Upacara: Ceremonial Art from Southeast Asia

from the Collection of Dr John Yu AC

Due to COVID restrictions, TAASA will be unable to proceed with our planned tour of Upacara: Ceremonial Art from Southeast Asia. Instead, Mosman Art Gallery has invited TAASA members to this zoom event where we will join Dr John Yu AC and Dr Siobhan Campbell, as they discuss and take us through this exhibition.

The exhibition represents 40 years of collecting by Dr. John Yu AC, and the late Dr George Soutter AM, with a focus on basketry, textiles, ceramics, and objects in bronze, terracotta, wood and silver from Southeast Asia, from the 10th century to the present.

Join John and Dr Campbell for a wonderful insight into the signficance of many of the selected objects presented as they guide members through this important exhibition.

Dr John Yu needs little introduction to the many people who share his love of Southeast Asia. He is a passionate collector and a prominent philanthropist. John is a founding member of TAASA and remains an involved member.

Dr Siobhan Campbell is an independent academic specialising in the material culture and arts of Indonesia. She is the Curator of the UPACARA (Indoneisan for ceremony or ritual) exhibition.

HOW TO BOOK:

Please RSVP direct to Mosman Art Gallery through this link https://www.trybooking.com/BUGLH by Monday 4 October, and the Zoom link will be emailed to you a day prior to the event.
