1930's Japanese Department Store Catalogues and Advertisements
Sally Burdon will discuss how seemingly modest artifacts such as pamphlets, personal papers, propaganda handouts and maps often reveal rich narratives and cultural insights. She will be showing select examples of the ephemeral material she handles while speaking on the philosophy that guides Asia Bookroom. Sally has handled notable historic items such as a Chinese Opium War album, Korean prisoner-of-war manuscripts, Qing dynasty charts and maps, rare Japanese maps, and missionary archives.
Asia Bookroom not only curates these treasures but also collaborates with research libraries to ensure their preservation and has successfully placed significant collections into major libraries worldwide. By finding homes for sensitive and significant items in academic institutions and libraries, Asia Bookroom plays a crucial role in safeguarding items of profound historical significance.
