An anagama fired "shizen-yu" teabowl
Old St Luke’s Studio and Gallery is situated near Gundaroo in an historic stone building constructed in 1848 as a church and school. See the wood-fired ceramics of Ian Jones and Moraig McKenna and hear them talk about their practice. Their ceramics are fired in a 9-metre long anagama style wood-fired kiln. Ian has been fascinated by the qualities achievable in long wood-firing since first seeing pots from Shigaraki and Bizen in the 1970s. He has worked with long anagama style tube kilns since finishing the construction of a 12-metre long kiln in the mid 80s.
Lunch? – Following the visit to the Studio & Gallery, members may like to have lunch in one of the excellent places in Gundaroo. Suggestions are Grazing, The Old Colonial Inn or the Café on Cork St.
