Illuminating Islamic Ceramics

Illuminating Islamic Ceramics

The spread of the Islamic faith also facilitated its culture and art through the ancient world. Although Islamic art retains it overall character, there are a great many traditions and local preferences that emerged over time. This meeting is focussed primarily on the ceramics of Iran (formerly Persia). Our guest speakers are Frances Brown, former Victoria and Albert Museum guide and avid traveller and ceramic collector, Ana Silkatcheva, specialist in Islamic art and archaeology at the Nicholson Museum, University of Sydney, studying the link between the Islamic and Chinese ceramic trade and Margaret White, ceramic enthusiast with an interest in the arts of West Asia who will look more closely at the art of architectural tiles.

TAASA members and guests are invited to bring relevant pieces they would like to share and discuss.
