SUMMARY:Tour of Asian Collection Highlights
DESCRIPTION:In this very special event for TAASA members\, Eva Czernis-Ryl and Min-Jung Kim will focus on the Asian collection highlights in the ‘1001 Remarkable Objects’ exhibition. Described by the SMH critic\, John Mc Donald as ‘irresistible and mind-boggling’\, the exhibition was developed by a Curatorium chaired by Leo Schofield AM with Eva Czernis-Ryl alongside two consultants\, Ronan Sulich and Mark Sutclifffe. In choosing the 1001 objects\, the curators determined all works must in some ways be remarkable – whether by virtue of rarity\, visual appeal\, cultural significance\, social history or an ability to invoke wonder. \nEva Czernis-Ryl is an art historian\, author and award -winning curator at the Powerhouse Museum who specialises in decorative arts and design from the 18th century to the present. \n \nMin-Jung Kim has been Curator of Asian Arts at the Powerhouse Museum since 2007 although she worked at the museum before that. During this time\, she has been responsible for many collection displays and exhibitions including the highly acclaimed ‘Five Hundred Arhats at Changnyeongsa Temple’ (2021). \n \nMeet at the foyer of the Powerhouse Museum at 11:15am. \nCapacity is limited so book early.
