SUMMARY:The New Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney and its Asian Collections
DESCRIPTION:David Ellis will provide an overview of the University of Sydney’s cultural collections with a focus on its Asian holdings. In November this year the Chau Chak Wing Museum will open to the public. Located on the University’s main campus in Camperdown\, this new purpose-built museum brings together the cultural and scientific collections previously held in the Macleay and Nicholson Museums (now closed) and University art collection. David will also talk about the development of the museum which will include a gallery dedicated to the arts and culture of China and the opening suite of exhibitions. The first exhibition in the China Gallery is on the theme of auspicious motifs featuring works drawn from the collections of the University with loans from the AGNSW and MAAS. \nDavid Ellis is the Director of Museums and Cultural Engagement at the University of Sydney. He has been responsible for the University’s public museums and collections since 2003. Previously he held senior positions at the NSW Ministry for Arts\, the National Library of Australia and Art Exhibitions Australia. David has a background in the visual arts and has works in various national\, state and regional collections. \n  \nHow to Register: Registration (only available to current TAASA members) closes Saturday 12 September.
