Within spaces designed by the artist, the exhibition Lee Ufan: Quiet Resonance distils over six decades of considered experimentation into a series of new paintings and sculptures created especially for the Art Gallery. Lee’s sparing use of simple materials, including stone, steel and canvas, has a quiet force that encourages contemplation and consideration of the physical and intellectual self in relation to the work.
The tour includes the galleries surrounding Quiet resonance which contain a discerning selection of works – paintings, prints and ceramics – that relate to Lee Ufan and his world, and are all from the Gallery’s permanent collection.
MELANIE EASTBURN is Senior Curator, Asian Art, at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, a position she has held since 2016. Melanie has been responsible for many exhibitions at the Art Gallery, including Japan supernatural 2019. She is Curator of the exhibition Lee Ufan: Quiet resonance, and the surrounding displays relating to the world of Lee Ufan.
